Aaron Rodgers Is in the House

The Jets haven’t been this excited about a quarterback since Joe Namath played for them. Even though he will be turning 40, Aaron Rodgers’ talent and experience will be a massive boost to the entire team.

New York had one of the best defenses in the NFL last season, but with Rodgers as quarterback, it should help the defense improve even more. In 2022, the offense was only on the field, an average of 28:44 per game. That means the other unit was getting worn out, being on the field longer. With Rodgers under the center, the defense should be able to stay stronger with less time stopping the opponents.

Will he be enough to end the Jets’ playoff drought? They haven’t made it since 2010, the longest active drought in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL.

Too Many Wide Receivers to Choose From

Aaron Rodgers is only as good as the receivers he has to work with. So the Jets know this because they worked hard at bolstering these areas.

Garrett Wilson was Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2022. That automatically puts him at the head of the line as the coaching staff is anxious to see his improvements from the offseason and how he will gel with Rodgers.

Allen Lazard spent five years catching throws from Rodgers in Green Bay before being signed by the Jets in free agency. At 6′ 5″ and 227 pounds, he doesn’t fit the mold of most receivers, but that didn’t stop him from receiving 60 passes for 788 yards last year. His size and strength make him ideal for the red zone, which has been a hole for the Jets in recent years.

Corey Davis has built a strong connection with Rodgers during training camp, and his talent is unmistakable – when he’s healthy. He’s missed 12 games in his two seasons with the Jets. The 6′ 3″, 209-pound wideout is impressive as a blocker and receiver. Now they just have to keep him healthy.

Mecole Hardman is another free agent signing. He comes from the Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent four years amassing 2,213 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Randall Cobb is the third free agent to sign with the Jets. He’s entering his 13th season in the NFL and will turn 33 in late August. His play has diminished, but his leadership and experience make him an asset.

Sports Betting Predictions for New York

Of concern to fans is the hiring of offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett at Rodgers’ request. Hackett was the OC with the Packers when Rodgers won back-to-back MVP awards. He was hired as head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2022 and subsequently fired partway through the season because of poor performance. Was he a lousy head coach, or has he lost a step? His hiring leaves a big question mark of how well the offense will do. There are lots of props bets on Rodgers that sports bettors can choose from. I’ve added a few here.
