BossAction’s College Basketball Weekend Preview

Do you have many College Basketball fans getting ready to place bets on this weekend’s games? As usual, plenty of games are being played, but here’s a quick rundown on what to expect from the AP Top 25 teams going against each other.

8 Kansas City Jayhawks at 13 Iowa State Cyclones

Even though No. 2 Kansas is facing No. 14 Iowa State, this game promises to be closer than you might think. The Jayhawks are 9-0 at home, but they’ll be playing in Iowa, where the Cyclones have gone 4-0 in conference matchups.

Both teams are even on their ATS at 5-5 and doing even worse on the over/under total points bets, each with a record of 3-6-1 in their last ten games. At least Iowa State’s ATS home record is a little better at 7-4. Maybe your players can start there.

25 Auburn Tigers at 2 Tennessee Volunteers

The Tigers had a great run of almost two years winning at home in college basketball. They finally lost a home game to Texas A&M on January 25, followed by losing at West Virginia a few days later. They’ve already dropped quite a bit in the rankings, and if they lose another game, they might slip off the AP Top 25 altogether.

Tennessee is on a four-game winning streak after losing to Kentucky on January 14th, which is not ranked in the top 25. There is a shot for the Tigers to steal one from the Volunteers if Tennessee doesn’t show up when they play easier teams.

23 Miami Hurricanes at 20 Clemson Tigers

These two teams might be closely ranked but are moving in different directions. Miami has moved down three positions, while Clemson has moved up four. The Tigers have momentum on their side, even though the stats slightly favor the Hurricanes.

If you’re looking at ATS, Miami has a record of 7-3, while Clemson is only 3-7 in the last ten games. Both teams have a 9-1 record for O/U total points scored, so that might be the best way for your players to bet. Here are some other betting trends that might be helpful:

Miami

  • 5-2 ATS in their last seven games
  • 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against Clemson
  • 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents
  • 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday road games

It almost looks like the college basketball stars are all aligning for Miami in this game, doesn’t it?

1 Purdue Boilermakers at 21 Indiana Hoosiers

Purdue has been the No. 1 ranked college team for most of the season. They lost once against Rutgers by one point but have been 8-0 since then. Their success is mainly because of defense and their 7’4”, 295-pound star center, Zach Edey.

The Hoosiers started the season hot but have declined since losing to Rutgers. The key here seems to be Rutgers. But while Purdue doesn’t put up a lot of points per game, the Hoosiers can produce great offense. They are ranked 26th in scoring and fourth in shooting percentage. As long as they can outshoot the Boilermakers, they should be able to outscore them. Their star player is Trayce Jackson-Davis, who leads the team in scoring with 19.6 points per game. He also pulls in 10.7 rebounds per outing.

10 Texas Longhorns at 7 Kansas State Wildcats

The Longhorns bounced back from their loss to Tennessee by beating Baylor at home on Monday. That put them in the top spot in the Big 12 conference. Kansas State might be a higher-ranked team, but they have lost two of their last three games to Kansas and Iowa State. The outcome of this game might shuffle the standings and the rankings of both teams.

The last time these two teams met was a high-scoring game, but it’s doubtful they’ll be anywhere near that total. Keep an eye on the O/U bets.
