Quarterback Duel Between Mahomes and Allen

Two of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL prepare for a 2024 AFC Championship game battle in Week 9. The three-time MVP Patrick Mahomes is heading to face the 2024 NFL MVP quarterback, Josh Allen. Their overall numbers are similar this season, with Mahomes leading the league in passing touchdowns with 17, and Allen leading in rushing touchdowns with five.

Their numbers this season have been remarkably close. Mahomes has a 67% completion rate to Allen’s 68%, 262 passing yards to Allen’s 222, and a 103.1 passer rating compared to 103.6. Even in rushing yards, they’re neck and neck — 280 for Mahomes and 261 for Allen. Simply put, these two are on nearly identical paths this season.

Their last encounter was in the 2024 AFC Championship game, when the Kansas City Chiefs won 32-29 thanks to a field goal with 3:33 left, followed by an unsuccessful drive by Allen, during which TE Mark Andrews couldn’t catch a ball on fourth-and-5, which led to another disappointing season for the Bills.

Chiefs and Bills Passing Game Breakdown

One of the good news stories for the Kansas City Chiefs is the return of wide receiver Rashee Rice in Week 7, who was suspended for six games for his role in a hit-and-run incident last March 2024. Since returning to action, Rice has registered 135 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 16 catches over the previous two weeks.

This is very impressive, as he is only surpassed by Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who had 28 catches during that period. This can only be translated into good news for the Chiefs, who can expect a very efficient offense with Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy also providing multiple options to Patrick Mahomes.

The Bills, however, have struggled to find consistency through the air. Josh Allen averages 9.1 yards per attempt when targeting wide receivers. Also, Khalil Shakir hasn’t seen his rhythm yet, and Keon Coleman has only 172 yards this season. Still, Coleman’s 95-yard performance last week could mark the start of a much stronger second half.

Chiefs vs Bills Score Prediction

This is going to be a very tough battle and a good opportunity for the Chiefs to chase the Chargers, as well as the Bills, in their pursuit of the Patriots, aiming to heat the fight for the best record in their respective divisions.

Our prediction at BossAction favors the Chiefs momentum with a victory 34-27 over the Bills.
